We found this flower in Helsinki, on the Malminkartano hill, and have no idea what it is. Anyone have ideas? Maybe it has escaped from a nearby garden.
If you like the flower, it's among the easiest to grow. Just take the seeds from a dried flower head and place one in each 1cm deep hole you make with a thin skewer. I promise you that EVERY single seed will sprout.
That's is a Columbine the genus is Aquilegia
ReplyDeleteJohn is right. You find this Aquilegia in a range of colors, from white over yellow and all red shades up do a dark blue.
ReplyDeleteThanks for such a fast identification. Indeed.
ReplyDeleteIn Finnish this is "akileija", and I have read the name in some books but never did know what kind of flower it is.

We were wondering that if you take seeds from a plant will the new flowers look like the original one, or perhaps quite different?
