Deciphered

The photographs were taken at Vaipo lake in Meiko on March 31st.

The new bicycle wheels which I ordered are still in transit. Today I had a look at the tires, and took apart the outer parts of the Nexus 8 gear hub. Maybe I should have a look inside as well, to see how a worn out gear hub looks. There is quite a lot of resistance when trying to turn the gears, so I guess the new wheel will make riding the bicycle somewhat easier than it was with the old hub.

To satisfy a lifelong curiosity

The photographs were taken at Meiko on October 20th.

I commuted by bicycle today. The snow has melted away, but in many places there is lots of gravel on top of asphalt. So far this year I have got 5,929 km riding the bicycle.

And what it will bring

The photographs were taken at Meiko on March 24th.

Last week I got 11 1/2 hours exercise even though I rested on Sunday. This week seems to be shaping up nice for commuting by bicycle. The shifting on the gear hub is working fine after I did some adjusting to it last Friday.

You saw me when I was invisible

I visited Tampere today. It is always a pleasure.

The photographs were taken at lake Vaipo on October 16th. You can perhaps guess from the photographs how quiet it was.

And I took all the time in the world

I did some repairs to the car today, replacing the battery and two H7 lamps. The battery has run out several times, and I decided to replace it with a new 60 Ah battery to see whether that fixes the problems. At the same time I replaced two H7 light bulbs. The left side bulb is really difficult to replace, because there is so little room, but when I removed the battery, it was easy to do. I hope the car is now ready for the cold and dark of the winter.

Looking for the landmarks that would guide him

On April 2nd I walked for three hours, around Meiko and Vaipo lakes, and visiting Vitträsk lake and Slättmossen swamp. Snow was melting and causing some flooding. I have a scar in my leg, slowly fading away, and from this I remember that I took a fall when climbing over a fallen tree.

The little raw soul was caught by no one

I walked in the forests of Meiko and Vaakkoi for 8 1/2 hours between Monday and Wednesday, and visited six lakes I hadn't previously seen: Tränuhals, Vaipo, Vitträsk, Väärä-Musta, Saaren Musta and Vaakkoi.

I have been thinking that perhaps it could be an interesting project to visit by walking a number of lakes in Finland. There are 187,888 lakes so this project could be going on for a long time... However, one should have some rules, for example the minimum distance of the walk to a lake, preventing too easy cases, and whether one should also walk around the lake or just see it.

Here are some photographs taken on Tuesday. I have visited Meiko lake already quite a few times, but this was my first visit to Vaipo lake. It is an interesting place, especially because there are large swamps to explore west of the lake. I have hundreds of photographs still waiting to be processed, so there is more to come...
