I'm gettin' it!

The photograph was taken in Helsinki on April 7th.

This morning I walked for two hours in Luukki. Some of the snow from yesterday still remained, but it will melt soon away, as this will be a warm day, +13 °C is in the forecast for the afternoon. I saw a pair of Gavia stellata floating on a lake where a pair has been nesting each year for quite some time. It felt like spring, listening to the loud sound of their calls.

And your deck of cards missing the jack and the ace

The photograph was taken on February 15th in Helsinki.

This is how Orange Agent acts:

  1. Lie
  2. Explain the lie with more lies
  3. Create a diversion
  4. Repeat

Eye our sound ship, or take leave

The photographs were taken in Helsinki on November 22nd.

During the night we got a little bit of snow, 0.5 cm or so, and it made the landscape a bit lighter. The length of day is now 5 h 51 minutes, and soon it will start getting longer, a little bit each day.

When commuting to work I saw in the snow half a dozen tracks left by bicycles. Thus I didn't feel that I'm the only one riding a bicycle in the morning darkness.

So many and so long a time to take

Here are two pairs of photographs, first of each pair taken on November 8th in Helsinki, and the second on November 9th. We got a lot of snow then.

During last night the temperature rose to +2 °C, and snow melted. Now it is freezing again.

Nesting in the emptiness of the blade

The photographs were taken in Helsinki on September 4th.

I have taken over 9000 photographs with my second LX100, and so far there hasn't appeared any dust inside the camera. I have avoided unnecessary on-off cycles of the camera, keeping it on all the time when I'm taking photographs. The battery lasts almost two hours, so I usually need just one spare battery when I go for a walk.

The sun has distilled its particular worn essence

The photographs were taken in Helsinki on July 6th.

This morning I rode the bicycle for 1 1/2 hours, to Seutula and back from there. Today I'm taking the car to the annual vehicle inspection. The car is 16 years old, and showing some signs of wear. Last year there were no problems found in the inspection. I hope the same for this time.

The consummation of the advertisements of the imagination of the light

The photographs were taken on March 16th in Helsinki.

I commuted by bicycle today. It was warm, 2 °C in the morning and 9 °C in the afternoon. I had slick summer tires in the bicycle, and it was smooth riding.

Now I must turn round and face it

The photographs were taken on January 20th in Helsinki.

I commuted by bicycle today. In the morning we had -8 °C, and in the afternoon -2 °C. The road was dry, which was excellent.

From his desk he had a view of the street

It has been somewhat clouded recently, so I selected photographs taken when we had sunny weather, on March 16th and 17th.

While I triumph o'er a secret wrung from nature's close reserve

We got a lot of new snow today. The snow was as wet as it can be without turning into water. I shoveled snow for 40 minutes, and was quite exhausted afterwards.

These photographs were taken on March 23rd, which was a grey day in Helsinki.

That sea we see of surfaces

I'm feeling tired, probably because I have been getting a lot of exercise recently, eight hours in four days. Or maybe it is due to a lot of things happening.

The photographs were taken on January 13th, when we got some new snow.

There is sometimes a walk afterward

These photographs were taken in Helsinki on Monday evening, walking by the seaside towards Uspenski Cathedral.

I had a look at the Flickr stats, and since November 1st there have been over 120,000 views of the photographs. I thought the number of views would go down as the interest in the LX100 peters off, but the opposite seems to be the case. Of my top 20 photographs at Flickr, ranked by the all-time view count, 14 were taken with the LX100.

I'm not yet quite used to the look of photographs taken with the LX100. And there are surprises, most of them rather positive. I have tweaked the settings a bit. In the beginning I used the silent mode, but now I'm using the normal shutter, with the sounds turned off and autofocus lamp off. The shutter sound is rather silent, and pleasant to hear. Also, I set the nr to -5 in the film mode, which means that there is a little bit of more noise visible in the high-ISO photographs, but less noise reduction artifacts. I like it better this way.

And my searches for the final answer

On Monday I attended a dinner in Helsinki. It was rather dark, and wet, and thus perfect for taking photographs of ships. After the dinner I got a rather blurry feeling...

A feast for the eyes

Well, the rain promised in the weather forecast never appeared, and thus we have about 4 cm of snow on the ground, only 1 cm less than yesterday. It feels like winter.

Thanks to getting the LX100, I have been taking a lot of photographs, over 1000 each week. These photographs were taken between November 11th and 14th in Helsinki.

I am just a body bleeding in bad light

Today I commuted by car. The flu symptoms eased a bit, but I'm not yet sure whether I should commute by bicycle tomorrow. Perhaps it is better to take it easy for a while.
