I have once again been reading Antti Hyry. I'm constantly surprised, he has such a deep way of writing. For example, the topic of specialness - is any place more special than any other, or any blade of grass, or any gust of wind? And related to this topic, what provides meaning to things - how does a human being connect, and assign a meaning, to things? Do we know?
Today I visited Tapiola, which is a suburb in Espoo, Finland. It used to be (and maybe still is) that tourists are transported in buses around Tapiola to have a look at the architecture of "the garden city". I lived some years in the area and didn't feel it was anything special, but who am I to tell. In any case, some parts of the suburb are actually not so bad. Here is a photograph from Tapiola showing a place very familiar to the residents and visitors.
Later today we went for a walk around the nearby lake Lammaslampi, where the ice still remains but is getting weak. Today was a bright day, lots of light, and the spring progressed nicely.
Tomorrow it may be that we travel up north a bit. However, it has happened that someone in the family has gotten sick at the last minute, so I'm not quite sure of this yet. But there may be a pause in my blogging here. Or not, this remains to be seen.
I registered today for SoFoBoMo '09 (The Solo Photo Book Month), although I don't have yet a good idea for a book of photographs. There is a tentative idea for exploring certain aspects of photography at lake Lammaslampi here nearby, but I'm not yet certain whether I can make that work. Well, if that doesn't work, then I have to find something else, don't I?
In any case, what I should try to do is to use this as an opportunity to develop as a photographer, to move from single photographs (which don't really have much of an idea in them) to a whole book. This is a big step. I have done a photobook with the Blurb system, so technically there isn't much of a hurdle, but going deeper into the meaning of photography, that is the tough part.
