A better bed than mine?

The photographs were taken at Oittaa on December 26th.

Almost all snow has melted away. There was a little bit of ice left on the road in the morning, so the studded winter tires were useful when commuting by bicycle. So far this year I have got 334 km riding the bicycle.

I look up when I walk

The photographs were taken at Oittaa near lake Sorlampi on April 15th. Today I'll be out and walking. There might even be Gavia stellata.

To find the sunlight hidden at the tip

The photographs were taken at Oittaa on April 15th.

In five days I have got over eight hours of exercise. So far this year I have got 2,142 km riding the bicycle. Tomorrow I'm planning to take a long walk, maybe five hours in all.

The Trump train is derailing. It may be too late to leap away and avoid the crash.

It is the signal to go straight

The photograph was taken at Oittaa on April 15th.

I have been thinking, once again, about the stupidity of the Twittler with tiny grasping hands. The United States seems to be in free fall towards anarchy and/or dictatorship. But as they say, "I have fallen 29 floors and it doesn't hurt yet".

Counted them out one by one

The photographs were taken on February 11th at Oittaa.

Do I dare to read the news to see what grasping and grabbing the baby-carrot fingers have managed to perpetrate since I last checked?

You’ll see soon

The photographs were taken at Oittaa on December 31st.

I have got 272 km riding the bicycle this year. Last year I got over 6,500 km of riding, which now feels quite a feat, perhaps because in winter riding the bicycle is much heavier and slower than during summer.

But at least the days are getting longer. This morning I saw a little bit lighter sky in the east while commuting by bicycle, even though it was over an hour before sunrise.

Bouncing back

The photographs were taken at Oittaa on September 10th.

I have got 5143 km riding the bicycle this year. The daily commute takes now 50 minutes, because I need to wear more clothes, and one needs to be quite careful in the morning when it is dark. Not all people riding a bicycle have lamps, and surprises can happen. The lampless riders start disappearing during the autumn, but some survive until winter.

Tomorrow I'm planning to visit a castle.

Into the ground

The photograph was taken at Oittaa on September 10th.

Today I didn't commute by bicycle. Sitting in a car in waiting for the traffic to move forward is not something to enjoy.

The black water

The photographs were taken on September 10th at Oittaa.

It is rather cold, and I need to wear warmer clothing when commuting by bicycle. In the morning it is dark, and one has to be careful.

Inside my eye that vision makes

The photographs were taken on September 10th at Oittaa.

I have been waking up rather early in the morning, at 5 am, and I'm getting a bit tired. I need to get more sleep.

Everything we find so disturbing

The photographs were taken at Oittaa on February 14th.

This morning while commuting by bicycle I had a puncture in the rear tire at half-way to work. I changed a new inner tube to the bicycle, but soon I got a new puncture, and had to leave to bicycle and commute by bus. Temperature was -1 °C, and fingers got quite cold when changing the inner tube, so I wasn't careful enough and didn't spot the sharp thing that had got inside the tire causing the puncture.

I'm planning to install summer tires to the bicycle during the weekend, and do some other repairs. For the next week the 10-day forecast promises quite warm and reasonably dry weather.

A quiet independence of the heart

The photographs were taken at Oittaa on February 14th.

The depth of snow is going down, 2 cm in a day. Now the measurement at Helsinki-Vantaa airport is 18 cm. For tomorrow the weather forecast promises -3 °C in the morning and +3 °C in the afternoon.

How do you recognize a lovely place?

The photographs were taken at Oittaa on January 17th.

There is 8 cm of snow at Helsinki-Vantaa airport, and 0 cm at Kaisaniemi park in the center of Helsinki. This is less than I thought that there would be. But the flooding isn't much eased, as a lot of the snow melted away, and in any case it was very wet snow. I'm thinking about how to explore the flooding during the weekend, without taking too much risks of sinking into a swamp or getting soaked otherwise.

I had today the possibility to see what has happened with the restoration of the National Library building in the center of Helsinki. What I regretted is that I didn't have my camera with me. But in any case I could enjoy the building instead of focusing on taking photographs.

Addendum: This evening I spent some time in Terminal on the MacBook, doing a little big of housekeeping at the Unix shell level. I thought I would have forgotten it all, but it went surprisingly well.
