And her eyes are the doors

The photographs were taken at Meiko on December 8th. There was some snow covering the landscape, but it soon melted away.

Should the wide world roll away

The photographs were taken on January 6th.

I commuted by bicycle today, and got 2 hours 15 minutes of riding. Snow was melting, and the narrow tire in the back cut into the snow, and this made riding hard and slow.

Almost no shadow ⎯ but the air’s thin talk

The photographs were taken on January 4th.

The weather is warming up, and for tomorrow the weather forecast promises +0 °C, so the roads will be wet and slippery.

I watch them as they pick

The photographs were taken on December 31st, 2017.

We got some new snow today, making the roads slippery because there is ice under the snow. When riding the bicycle one has to take care because the ice bumps and ridges are not visible through the snow.

I have been rather happy with the footwear: Specialized Elite TR shoes and GripGrab RaceThermo overshoes. The shoes which I bought last summer are size 48, one size larger than my old shoes, and when I let the straps a bit loose I can wear two layers of socks. The overshoe is made of 2 mm neoprene, which provides a nice amount of insulation. In addition, I used some duck tape inside the shoe to give a bit of extra insulation to the bottom of the shoe.

Matters in the end. Or so I thought.

The photographs were taken on December 29th, 2017.

This morning I walked for almost two hours, starting well before sunrise. Because of snow it wasn't dark, and the cold weather (-13 °C) had frozen the paths. It seems that we will have cold and dry weather for a while, for a week at least. That is good.

If they want to pull they should pull at their own pullables

The photographs were taken at Juvanmalmi industrial area on December 23rd.

It was cold this morning, -12 °C, but I didn't get too cold while commuting by bicycle. The new back tire is narrower than the old one, with just 106 studs instead of 240, but it has been good enough. In some places there has been ice underneath the snow on the street, and it has been rather slippery, but I haven't fallen yet.

And the song of the wise

The photographs were taken on December 14th.

This morning I walked in a snow-covered forest. Sunrise was at 9:02, so it wasn't dark. Length of day is 7 hours, which feels like a milestone towards spring.

I have cleared this space for you, for you, for you

The photograph was taken on December 9th.

This afternoon it started to snow, and there was 4 cm of snow on the ground when I arrived home. It looks like winter.

My old lobster-style winter gloves don't keep the hands warm any more. They are over fours years old, so I guess that was to be expected. I ordered a new pair, of different type, size XXL, and I hope they fit. I don't understand the sizing of gloves, it seems that they are always smaller than they should be.

So far this year I have got 200 km riding the bicycle.

We will focus our attention on this gesture of walking

The photographs were taken on December 5th.

I commuted by bicycle today, riding through the central park in Helsinki. In the morning the temperature was -7 °C, in the afternoon -2 °C. I was wearing lobster-style gloves, but in the morning my hands got a bit cold. It may be that the gloves are starting to lose some of their insulating properties.

With some regard to what is just and right

The photograph was taken on December 5th. The handheld exposure was 1 second, and there is some blur, but it is not bad.

It seems that cold and dry weather will continue until next weekend. That is fine, even though it would be nice to have a little bit of snow to make the landscape less dark.

Who is this rumpled lookalike who wears

The photographs were taken on December 4th at Paloheinä in Helsinki. While walking along the paths I got to 15 meters distance of two white-tailed deer, thanks to the meandering paths, but the photographs were blurry because it was so dark.

The photographs were taken on November 18th.

The length of day is now 5 hours 47 minutes. Soon, soon it will start getting longer.
