And I am the one who brought it to an end

The photographs were taken at lake Hepolampi south of Luukki on September 2nd.

This morning I walked for two hours in Luukki, west of Ketunkorpi, exploring the swamps. I got one deer fly.

The two absent ones: you and I

The photograph was taken on July 1st while visiting the Sallatunturi fells in Salla, Lapland.

I have explored the parks in London. Today morning I visited Holland Park, having a look at Kyoto Garden. This is a place I really liked. After noon it started to rain, and this will continue for some time. I guess it might be worthwhile to take a walk when the rain eases a bit.

There is no happiness like mine

Today I walked for 2 h 20 min at Vaakkoi. This time I got 19 deer flies (Lipoptena cervi), almost as many as yesterday. However, one of them hit me in the car while driving to Vaakkoi, and so it must have found me already yesterday, hiding in my coat or in the car until this morning.

I have got almost 14 hours of exercise this week. However, weight has gone up by 2-3 kg since I started at work after the summer vacation even though I have got plenty of exercise. I guess I have been eating a bit too much.

The photographs were taken on July 27th at Koli.

And laid my weapon next to it

This morning I walked 2 1/2 hours, visiting lake Tränuhals. I got 21 deer fly, a new record. Having a deer fly crawl on your skin is not something to appreciate.

The photographs were taken on July 27th at Koli, except for the deer fly photograph which was taken today.

No longer vegetal, steps into view

Yesterday I planned to rest, but I got restless, and in the evening I rode the bicycle for 1 1/2 hours. Maybe today I'll take it easy.

The photographs were taken on July 14th in Luukki, near lake Väärälampi.

And it makes me feel quite small

This morning I walked at Tremanskärr swamp and around lake Kurkijärvi. There are a lot of blueberries, and some cloudberries.

These photographs were taken on July 8th and 9th.

And it needs you to keep walking it

These photographs were taken on June 20th in Petikko. I'm not yet sure what to do today. The day is rather cool and wet. Some walking would be good.

And who were we, watching?

I commuted by bicycle today, and it went fine, even though I got more tired than usually. I have been able to sleep two nights well, which helps a lot.

Yesterday evening I had a little walk, and it was a surprise how far advanced the summer is already, even though the weather has been cool and rainy. Lot of flowers had started blooming.

The photographs were taken on May 17th in Vaakkoi.

Why stay we on the earth unless to grow?

Here are photographs of some bugs I noticed on June 30th in Luukki. Dozens of them were flying at the same time. I haven't got around to identifying the species yet, even though I have an idea what they could be.

Update: I'm pretty sure that Mystacides longicornis is the species.

Today is going to be a rainy day here at Kilpisjärvi. We will do some exploration of Lapland by car. And maybe a little bit of walking as well.

So don't, don't, don't let it slip away

I have commuted by bicycle each day this week, and on the way home there has been headwind, up to 10 m/s. I have had a little bit of muscle cramps, but I have also taken magnesium, and it seems to be helping.

The temperature had dropped to +3 °C during the night, and there has even been a little bit of snowfall here in south Finland.

I hope that the young birds are not suffering too much, and all the other little critters.

To have insight into its muddy self

It rained and I got wet when riding the bicycle home from work. And it was cold, temperature was at +10 °C, and it was the same in the morning. Much colder than usually this time of the year. Not so good for all the little critters out there.

The joys of earth and air are thine entire

Here are some closeup photographs, taken at Velskola in Nuuksio on September 8th. I have several hundred photographs from last weekend waiting for processing, but there just isn't time for that. And today I got soaking wet when commuting by bicycle. Well, it has been a while since this happened.

Is the mind a mirror?

Well, the rain stopped (for a while at least) yesterday afternoon, and now it is sunny outside. In some places the water stays still in place, but given how dry the ground was I think evaporation and absorption into the ground will take care of it.

These photographs were taken on July 31st, two weeks ago. Maybe next weekend there will be some time to go through the newer photographs.

My mind is what I want it to be

I have been commuting by bicycle this week. There was a pause of a month in between, and I thought that it might be heavy going in the beginning, but it wasn't so. The first morning I made a new record in the commute time, 38 minutes, a lucky combination of wind and traffic lights. Mostly I have taken it easy, which means 40 minutes to work in the morning, and 45 minutes back home.

Here is a collection of buggy photographs from last week. This week I haven't taken many photographs, but luckily I have some still left from earlier.

Nature without check with original energy

I wonder what is the species of this pair of bugs? They flew joined together, and then settled hanging on a dry grass blade, allowing the camera to come close. The length of the insect is about 1 cm. I took these photographs on Saturday at the north edge of Tremanskärr swamp.

To the summer heavens circling inside the skull

I was rather busy today, doing chores at home, and while the doors were open a grasshopper hopped inside. One leg was missing but it didn't diminish the ability to climb. After the children had a look, we released the fellow outside to continue doing whatever was interrupted.

I'm planning to commute by bicycle tomorrow, but the weather forecast is a bit worrisome, as one forecast says there will be rain at night but the other says the rain will start already during afternoon. Well, I hope I won't get too wet when coming back home.

It is like the reverberation of a bell rung three times

This morning I went with my daughter to see a dentist, and then I read for a while. When there was a break in the rain I walked for over two hours in the Luukki forests, going around lake Väärälampi and visiting lakes Mustlampi and Halkolampi.

There were a lot of blueberries to be eaten, and some wild strawberries as well. Of the blueberry there are two visually distinct versions, the other light blue, and the other almost black, which is due to a difference in the genes which make the black berries lack the wax cover which the blue ones have. The black is more rare, but they taste the same.

There were a few cloudberries also, though they are not ripe yet. - Except for two berries which I found in a sunny spot on an open swamp, and they tasted good.

My diet today was dominated by berries, not only because I picked some in the forest, but also because I bought a box of strawberries at the shopping mall near the dentist's office. I prepared them for freezing, to be eaten during the winter, and of course I had to taste them (and good they were).

And because my daughter likes highbush blueberries, I bought some of them also, and we had a nice evening snack eating berries.

Occasionally I think about a vegetarian diet, but I haven't really seriously thought about trying it out myself. But I have experimented with eating more environmentally friendly, meaning more vegetables and less red meat, and that isn't so difficult. But going totally vegetarian, I don't think that is for me.
