Glitter to a magpie’s covetous eye

The photograph was taken in Luukki on October 17th. The red sun was remarkable, caused by dust in the air.

Of some incredible control

The photographs were taken on October 8th.

We have still snow on the ground, but it is melting away. Tomorrow I'm planning to go for a long walk near Tampere, and I hope there will be still some snow remaining.

But it was our own foundations, crumbling

The photograph was taken on October 7th.

Today I commuted by car and train, because of meeting logistics. Tomorrow there might be a little bit of snowfall, but I have studded winter tires in the bicycle, so it should be fine.

Leaving just a memory

The photographs were taken at lake Myllyjärvi south of Luukki on September 2nd.

Today I walked for almost three hours at Torronsuo swamp and Liesjärvi National Park. It was foggy in the morning, changing the landscape. I saw three cranes, and tasted cranberries and lingonberries. After the fog disappeared, crickets made noise, and a lizard warmed up in the sunshine.

Where walls between all beings

The photographs were taken at Sipoonkorpi National Park on August 26th.

This morning I explored Petikko, riding the bicycle and walking for two hours. It was quiet, and autumn colors start to be quite visible.

You would never see

Photography-wise, I'm now back from London. The photographs were taken on August 12th in Petikko.

A burning so beautiful you want it

The photographs were taken on December 24th.

Today I commuted by bicycle, and got over two hours of exercise. The roads are covered by packed snow, which is melting, and thus riding the bicycle is quite heavy.

When I see you in that light

The photographs were taken on November 5th in Luukki.

Last night we got a little bit of snow, and less than 1 cm of it still remains. The landscape keeps changing. The length of day is now 6 h 36 min, and days are shortening quite fast.

Not through his eyes or through his brain or through his years

The photographs were taken on October 2nd.

This year I have got 5555 km riding the bicycle. Because of the rain, the bicycle was quite dirty today afternoon, and it took some time to clean it up.

Quiet and blind

The photographs were taken in Vaakkoi on August 27th.

This morning I walked for 2 h 15 min in the south parts of Luukki, enjoying the autumn colors. It was cool, 7...9 °C, and I got only two deer fly.

The scene must be carried on the tongue

The photographs were taken on August 13th at Myllyjärvi south of Luukki, using the new LX100 which doesn't have the dust problem, at least so far.

This morning I walked for two hours at Oittaa, circling around lake Sorlampi. There was some fog but that cleared up soon. It has been several months since I last visited Oittaa, but I remembered the paths quite well. Last winter I walked there almost every week, and even managed to get somewhat lost a couple of times.

I have cleared this space for you, for you, for you

The photographs were taken on October 24th, north of lake Myllyjärvi, enjoying the autumn colors.

I commuted by bicycle today. There was a little bit of frost and ice on the road, but mostly the road surface was quite dry, and there wasn't much need for the studded winter tires.

In the front I have a Nokian Hakka SW240 studded tire, which has 240 studs, and in the back a Nokian Hakka A10 tire, which has only 72 studs. The SW240 tire has lasted a long time, but a Nokian Hakka W106 tire which I used in the back lasted only a short while before breaking apart. I hope A10 will be better, at least it seems that the studs are better positioned so that the tire may last longer when it will be mostly used on asphalt roads.

Tomorrow the weather will be colder, -7 °C in the morning.

I had a look at photographs taken in January, 2010, almost six years ago. I was quite surprised of the quality and content of the photographs, they felt better that those I’m taking right now. One reason may be that there was snow in the photographs, and I enjoy the snow season, it inspires me.

On the other hand, the camera I was using was the Panasonic LX3, which got me really interested into taking photographs, and I think the curiosity and interest in learning is visible in the photographs. It may be that I’m nowadays a bit too passive, a bit too jaded, and it shows in the photographs.

And there's nothing to do but see

You may have noticed that the poems I have been using as the source of posting titles have been rather moody recently. It is the dark, creeping.

When he puckered his lips and tried to kiss her

This morning I walked for 2 h 40 min in Nuuksio, starting from Velskola, going around lake Kattilajärvi, and returning along lake Vääräjärvi. It was +7 °C when I started and +12 °C when I returned. There were no deer fly, probably due to cool weather and strong wind.

These photographs were taken in Vaakkoi on August 30th.

If being by yourself separates from your symmetry

I commuted by bicycle today, which provided about two hours of exercise. The temperature has been hovering just above 0 °C, so snow is melting, but rather slowly. It is somewhat slippery, but the studded winter tires provide plenty of traction.

Fail in an instant, no man did

In 2014 I have published 535 postings here; in 2013 there were 537 postings. I'm not sure whether any of them are worthwhile in retrospect, but at least I have had a place where to go through the photographs taken during each year.

Even though the act of taking a photograph is for me the most important thing - the act of seeing - there is also something rewarding in going through the photographs, thinking about them, learning from them.

These photographs were taken on December 24th.

Only by turning into itself

I got plenty of exercise today, two hours walking in the morning, and 45 minutes shoveling snow in the afternoon. The depth of snow is now 11 12 cm, and a little bit more is promised in the forecast. But I think I got more calories than I consumed today, at least it feels that way.

The photographs were taken this morning while walking.
