I’d like to see it that way

The photographs were taken in Vaakkoi on May 12th. You may wonder how it is possible that in one photograph there are lingonberries and in another blueberry flowers.

I was thinking of being alive

The photograph was taken in Petikko on November 18th.

This morning I walked for over two hours in Juvanmalmi industrial area and Timmermalmi nature protection area. Both were rather quiet early in the morning. It started to snow, and temperature rose from -2 °C to +1 °C.

Near any bogey opera glass

The photographs were taken at Tremanskärr on November 5th.

So far this year I have got 6,035 km riding the bicycle. This morning it rained, and there was snow slush and ice on the road, but the studded winter tires provided plenty of grip. In the afternoon the rain stopped, and there was no snow or ice remaining.

The length of day is now 6 hours 3 minutes, and the day will get 16 minutes shorter in 13 days.

We dream the dream of extirpation

The photograph was taken on October 16th.

In a previous posting I wrote: "I thought about stereotypes, for example the feeling that many people from the USA are not really grown up even though they may look like adults." One thing which fits this stereotype extreme well is gun ownership. Only people who haven't grown up can allow such a lax attitude to guns as is the case in the USA.

When I see you in that light

The photographs were taken on November 5th in Luukki.

Last night we got a little bit of snow, and less than 1 cm of it still remains. The landscape keeps changing. The length of day is now 6 h 36 min, and days are shortening quite fast.

Gazing down on secret human desires

The photographs were taken at lake Kattilajärvi in Nuuksio on August 20th.

Today the morning was rather cold, 6 °C, but it was fine for walking. I took quite a lot of photographs of the autumn landscape, sun low on the horizon.

He found himself extremely in the fashion

The photographs were taken on July 16th in Meiko.

This morning I got wet when riding the bicycle, and the clothes were so wet that they didn't get dry during the day, so I had to put wet clothes on when riding home from work.

My sadness is alive alongside the recognition

The photographs were taken in Nuuksio on July 12th.

I have ridden the bicycle for 3835 km this year. This is more than this time last year. When I commute to work through the central park, I get 35 km riding each day.

It is getting colder. This morning the temperature was 7 °C.

I will have pretty gardens wherever I am

Yesterday afternoon I visited Korkeasaari Zoo with the children. It was a sunny and warm day, and the wind was nicely cool.

These photographs were taken on July 20th in Luukki, southwest of the Luukki lake. Wild strawberry has been plentiful this summer.

Of a web in which some thought is caught

This morning I walked for 2 1/2 hours in the north parts of Nuuksio, south of lake Saarijärvi. There were still some cloudberries left, and lots of blueberries.

These photographs were taken in Luukki on July 16th.

We make our vision quest

I walked for 2 1/2 hours this morning in Luukki. Blueberries are ready for picking on south-facing hillsides. There are also wild strawberries to taste, as well as cloudberries on sunny spots of swamps.

The photographs were taken on July 2nd and 4th.

Fail in an instant, no man did

In 2014 I have published 535 postings here; in 2013 there were 537 postings. I'm not sure whether any of them are worthwhile in retrospect, but at least I have had a place where to go through the photographs taken during each year.

Even though the act of taking a photograph is for me the most important thing - the act of seeing - there is also something rewarding in going through the photographs, thinking about them, learning from them.

These photographs were taken on December 24th.

Don’t try to bind

One thing which the LX100 allows, in contrast to the LX3/LX5, is the use of DOF to isolate subjects close to the camera. I'm not really into this kind of photography, and the wide DOF has been in fact one good point of the small-sensor cameras, making it possible to take handheld close-up photographs.

Here is how the photographs taken with the LX100 look at f/2.8 and 34 mm (75 mm equiv.). One could grow to like the look of the photographs.

Quite soon I realized that to be able to get exactly the right focus, I need to have different settings from the normal ones, and thus I have set the "one-focus-point" mode to the custom settings C2. In addition, I set ISO 400 as the sensitivity to C2 to limit the effects of camera shake. Not that the OIS system on the LX100 wouldn't work well, it is just the with subjects close to the camera OIS is not a guarantee of shake-free results.

Unbelievable cleanliness allowed

Yesterday I walked for almost two hours in Sipoonkorpi National Park, in the swamps west of Viirilä. It has rained quite a lot, so the swamps are getting wet. There was a thunderstorm passing by during the walk, with heavy rain. The temperature dropped from +17 °C to +11 °C, and I got soaked.

This reminds me that I should apply a new water-repellent treatment to my old jacket, it gets wet too easily. And I should wash it also, it got quite dirty during the walk.

I have got over nine hours of exercise this week, which is good. Next week seems to be rainy, but I have got used to riding the bicycle while it rains.

The photographs were taken in Vaakkoi on July 29th.
