We have been getting more snow, making the landscape look like a painting of winter. I have still some trouble in getting the exposure right, but slowly the skills are shaping up. It can be quite a challenge to catch all the shades of white properly.

Try automatic exposure with +1.75 stops exposure compensation.

Not a bad idea. In my custom setting I have +2/3 as the default, and depending on the situation I increase or decrease it a bit. +1 2/3 is probably the maximum in most circumstances. The live histogram helps to see the effect. Also, changing the contrast setting may be necessary sometimes. Still, it can be difficult to get it right.
