So tell me what these images portend

The photograph was taken on June 3rd.

My seven year old Macbook got broken while traveling, it doesn't start up any more. I guess it got one bump too many. I'm pondering whether I need a laptop, or can I survive with the iMac and an iPhone/iPad. This remains to be seen.

I lost some files as well, mostly related to my book-review blog. Perhaps it is not a big problem to forget about a few dozen books I have read but not yet written about.

(Posting title is from the poem Roadblock by Rachel Hadas.)

Hi Juha,
even if I cannot read finnish, I notice that you post a book review each day. It seems you accomplish a hard task. Great. Do you read each book in its entirety to review?
Best regards
Francesco

There are all kinds of book I wrote about, fiction, non-fiction, comics, children's books etc. Most of the books I do read, but if the book is not that great or interesting, I may skip forward, or even stop reading. In any case, reading books is not "a hard task" - it is a pleasure.

I have tried to post a note about each book so that I can later on remember what I have been reading, and sometimes I use the blog to check whether I have already read a certain book. One can sometimes forget, for example when I have read the original book in English and later on there is a Finnish translation available.

I agree with you. Reading is a pleasure. With "hard task" I mean (with my poor english) the task of posting a review each day. I forget too sometimes what I have read, perhaps because I am using to read in my spare time, on the bus and sometimes this is not a quiet reading.
Regards
Francesco

Well, most of the books I read are from the local library, and I can always check the history page of their online reservation system to see what books I have borrowed at some point.

To help remember what books I have read is helped by taking a photograph of the cover of each book when I have read it, and one or two photographs of the pages of the books. When I then write about the books, I have at least a photographic trail of books I have gone through.

By the way, I managed to get my Macbook booting up, after opening it and cleaning the dust away. It makes occasional "chirpy" noises but works once again. Thus my store of "book photographs" is once again available. I need to make a backup.

Hmm ... trying to catch up, no idea wheter it turns out well with your Mac or not. Anyway, if computers behave like that, it's time to think of a replacement.

My MacBook Pro is a Mid 2014, so I have some time to adapt to the idea of using an adapter again for reading my SD cards.

If I had to buy today, I'd probably shell out my money for a Dell XPS 15. 1TB SSD, 32GB memory, better graphics, still cheaper than a Mac. Yes, it's Windows 10, so what? There is no program that I depend upon, that's Mac-exclusive. Linux in a VMWare Player would make it even easier to accept.

It turned out that a little bit of cleaning was enough to fix the Mac. But I should be more careful about backups.
