I walked today for two hours in Nuuksio forests, starting from Siikajärvi side. I was cold, -13 °C when I started out and -11 °C when I returned. Well, coldness is relative, it really was quite nice weather for walking, but one isn't yet used to the cold.
It was also sunny, and that was a pleasure, to be out, in the sunshine, and fresh snow made the landscape look like it would have been created yesterday.
A moment of profound silence followed.

Johan on mahtavat näkymät - tunnelma kovasti talvinen.
Hieno kuvasto alkavasta talvesta...
We really need to get you to come to the States -- you need to visit Starved Rock state park in Illinois to photograph the bald eagles in January (and get in a few shots of the ice falls in the canyons). You also need to go visit the hidden canyons in Arizona.
@Anonymous: Sounds good, although I'm not too happy about the long, long flight to the States and all the nice formalities when arriving.
Juha: If I made it all the way to Australia, 19 hours in flight, 24 hours total travel, you can make to the States! :) Besides, lots of stuff to see in North Carolina. We could even go up into the mountains, such as they are here, and find some snow.
@Paul: Maybe some day!
I recently read John Muir's "A Thousand-Mile Walk to the Gulf", which tells of those days when it was possible to go from one place to another by walking in the USA. And you had a lot of forests where you could freely walk...
