And all the beauty of the place

In the posting from yesterday I wrote that I didn't take any photographs that day. Well, that isn't quite true, as after making that posting I went out with my daughter and the LX5. She wanted to get a nice-looking maple leaf, and I took some photographs. It had just started to rain, and it was quite dark except for the streetlights.

Today I commuted by bus, as I felt that five days of commuting by bicycle would be a bit excessive. And quite a lot of rain was forecasted. I took photographs from the bus window, all rather blurry, but they fit the mood. I have had a bit of unreal feeling because of the lack of sleep and a lot of exercise. Well, maybe this will be cured during the weekend.

At the Ministry I took part in a tongue-in-cheek "summer photograph" competition for the staff, and my photograph was selected as the winner. You can view it below. Originally I included the photograph in a posting discussing saving money by cutting the local school budget, which seemed crazy to me.

This is only the second time I have won a photograph competition. The previous time was an event for the employees of the company, and I was quite as surprised then as this time, because I don't think my photographs are such that they would generate a lot of votes in a competition.

(Posting title is from the poem “Oh Fairest of the Rural Maids” by William Cullen Bryant.)

Art, thanks! Can't help taking photographs, it would be hard to stop now when it has become habit..

Congratualtions on winning. The level of details are great and so the light.

Thanks, Francesco!

Nowadays I don't much look at my older photographs, there is so many photographs yet to be taken that it doesn't feel worthwhile to look at those already taken, but every once in a while one does notice a detail of the world worth pondering about.

Thanks, Paul!

I got a mug with the photograph printed on it as the price - haven't yet put it to use, maybe I'll keep it clean and safe...
