A sheet of blue

Today I went for a walk to the Luukki forests with my eldest daughter. We walked for more than two hours, enjoying the frosty landscape, deep blue sky, and the bright sunshine.

It was an excellent day for exploring the forests and lakes. Some of the smaller lakes had a thin covering of ice, which had been forming during the cold night. When we started out, the temperature was -5 °C, and when we came back, it was -2 °C.

I suppose the forests there are boreal (taiga). They look very inviting.

@Eric: Well, boreal is the right term. However, here in Helsinki region you can also speak of hemiboreal forests, as we have even oak and hazel growing here - it is a mixture.

The Luukki forests as well as the Nuuksio national park are a bit special, as the landscape is very rugged: rocky hills with bogs in between. In some places is feels like Lapland.

@Art: Thanks! This was quite a day - since then it has been clouded, with plenty of rain and darkness.
