On pocketable cameras and photobooks

One benefit of a pocket camera is that you can have it with you always. Today I was in Helsinki just before sunset, and decided to have a walk in Seurasaari, which is an island near the university campus in Meilahti. It was not a very impressive sunset, but there were some nice tones of blue with a slight touch of red.

The photos here were taken in Seurasaari. Once again, I have a tree as a subject. This brought to mind an image on current fashion for trees, covering them with lights.

Speaking of pocketable cameras, Dpreview published their review of the Panasonic G1. I must say that the camera is really tempting, but it is still a bit too large for my purposes. Also, although there certainly is room for improvement in the LX3, I have been mostly happy with it.

If there would be a similar camera (the same lens, sensor resolution etc.) with somewhat better dynamic range and high-ISO performance - for example, ISO 1600 at the same noise level as ISO 400 on the LX3 - that would be perfect.

Finally, I got today the photobooks I ordered from Apple via iPhoto, using family photos from the recent six months as the material. The photobooks succeeded well. Although the cover photo was perhaps slightly dark (but only slightly), the inside photos were printed well - good colors, not too dark or light. The book had also a couple of full-bleed pages, and these worked nicely as well, giving a bit of a structure to the photobook.
