New Canon compact (?) - PowerShot SD880 IS

There are signs (including specifications) of an upcoming new PowerShot (Digital Ixus) from Canon, SD880 IS. The specs include 1/2.3 inch 10-megapixel sensor, Digic 4, 4x 28-112 mm zoom, and f/2.8-5.8. The specs seem to be work-in-progress, so they may not be realiable.

This is a point-and-shoot camera with a bit of manual control, but mostly automated modes, included advanced face/motion detection (up to 35 faces??) and continuous autofocus. ISO goes all the way to 3200 (in 1600 x 1200 resolution), but I wonder how Digic 4 copes with the noise.

If true, this would be a straightforward upgrade of the current SDxxx/Ixus models. In a way, quite attractive, but there is the problem of the small sensor. Still, the 1/2.3 inch sensor would be an upgrade from the 1/2.5 inch sensor in SD870.

Update: The pages describing SD880 IS were later removed.
