Although it was still raining, I had to go for a short walk in the evening. It was very dark, but the local church was well lighted.
I made a vertical panning movement to take this photo, but as the image stabilization was still on, I got a rather interesting efect. The exposure was 0.625 seconds, and the image stabilization system tried to keep the subject stable, about a dozen times in rapid succession.
To get a fluid panning movement to the photo you need to switch off the image stabilization. However, based on this "chain of light pearls" result, I feel that there are subjects where this behaviour can be used to get interesting effects.
For example take a long exposure photo of lights far away, and you can produce light-pearls with various separations and interesting trajectories. Perhaps worth trying out at some point.
